Solomon Kerzner (Sol Kerzner) was born in August 1935 as the youngest son of four children of a Jewish-Russian immigrant in Johannesburg, in South Africa. In 1979, he succeeded in establishing a number of world famous resorts before embarking his big mission, building Sun City. He is the creator of the Sun City. In the current condition, Sun City is the most popular tourist attraction in the world. It grabs the attention of the large number of international artists, even popular ones including Elton John and Queen and Ray Charles. He is also the founder, CEO, and chairman of the Kerzner International.

He is a trained chartered account. Sol Kerzner’s family started a hotel chain. He took the charge of the running of hotels and managed to expand it beyond the imagination. His efforts made him create Sun International, the most successful and popular hotel group in South Africa.
He also bought the Hotel Astra in Durban in 1962. He built the first five-star hotel in a village, Umhlanga. He also built Beverly Hills Hotel. After Beverly Hills, he built Elangeni Hotel. He developed the Sun Hotel chain Hotels in with all the modern comforts and facilities. His entire focus was on South Africa in the initial days of his career. He built many renowned hotels with world-class facilities both in the urban and rural areas.
His world adventure started in 1975 when he built his first hotel outside South Africa. The hotel was built in Mauritius, on an Island, Indian Ocean. The hotel name is Le Saint Géran. In 1979, he became a world-famous personality after developing Sun City. It took around a decade to build a man-made lake, four hotels, an entertainment center for multi-purpose uses, and two Gary Player-designed championship golf courses.
After establishing the Sun City, he focused on different parts of the world to expand his hotel business. He built Mohegan Sun casino in popular Uncasville, in 1996. The next phase of the project started in 2000 with the objective of creating a 1,200-room hotel as a joint project with the Trading Cove Associates.
In 2002, he started another project One&Only Resorts that currently operates on seven properties including South Africa, The Maldives, Mauritius, The Bahamas, Mexico, Hayman Island, and Dubai.
In 2007, Sol Kerzner expanded his business and entered Paradise Island and Atlantis with the new Hotels named The Reef and The Cove. He also opened a water-themed resort in Dubai in late September 2008. In 2009, he built the luxury hotel, Mazagan Beach Resort. In October 2013, he announced a new hotel at Sanya, on the Hainan Island in China. It was a joint venture with China’s Fosun International. This resort will have a water park and advanced 1,300 rooms. The project is expected to cost $1.63 billion.
